  • The development of metallurgy led to the creation of new types of steel characterized by exceptional operational properties. The steels are used for the high-requirement manufacture of certain products and their parts. An example is the steel ШХ15. Its primary use is in bearing production, but its performance characteristics are also actively used in knife making. Initially developed as industrial tool steel, ШХ15 gradually gained great versatility and became one of the best alloys for making knives. The metal is well-suited for heat treatment, allowing its active use to produce cutting tools. After heat treatment, there is a significant increase in the strength and wear resistance of knives. Knives made from ШХ15 have a long service life, as their resistance to external loads allows them to remain sharp for a long time. They withstand external environmental influences well. ШХ15 steel is often used to produce tactical, hunting, and kitchen knives. These knives effortlessly handle meat, bone and branch cutting, thick rope cutting, and all household chores. Such a knife would be a perfect gift for a kitchen chef or a professional hunter.

    Properties of ШХ15 Steel

    • High hardness index. The product must have higher toughness to prevent the quick wear of bearings and knives, which undergo significant load. The product must have a higher hardness.
    • Resistance to wear. The surface of ШХ15 steel does not experience friction, allowing it to maintain its original properties for a long time.
    • Resistant to high impacts and external mechanical loads. Therefore, indentations are practically non-existent on this metal.
    • The steel structure is well-suited for heat treatment. Hardening and tempering improve strength at the molecular level.

    Chemical Composition of ШХ15 Steel

• Carbon (0.95-1%) - its relatively high concentration contributes to greater structural hardness.
    • Manganese (0.2-0.4%) – present in almost all steels. It is used to remove oxygen and sulfur from steel, positively affecting the steel's flexibility and weldability.
    • Silicon (0.17-0.37%) – used in steel production, positively affects strength and enhances the impact of other components. Along with manganese or molybdenum, silicon ensures the greater hardness of the steel.
    • Chromium (1.35-1.65%) – chromium makes the alloy rust-resistant.
